Feedback from Recent INSET Sessions..'Season To Be Cheerful'

There were 31 teachers from various primary schools who attended these December 2008 INSET sessions, below is their feedback starting with a summary....

Summary:-

  • The most enjoyable course we’ve all been on.

a. What actions will you take when you return to school?

  • Purchase the resources.
  • Have already started teaching the choir the songs for Christmas performances to teachers, parents and rest of the school.
  • Look at ways of using the course materials to extend singing repertoire within school.
  • Discuss possibility of having Urban Voice involved in school next term with children.
  • Possibility of having Urban Voice in school. • Use CD when appropriate. Start a choir.
  • Teach carols to children.
  • Performances if appropriate.
  • Hope to use songs with classes in school. Sure children will enjoy them.
  • Use CD with children and …. Sing!
  • We have been practising the songs and the actions, using the CD, ready for the concert.
  • Teach some of the songs!
  • More question and answer.
  • More confident to rehearse with children.
  • Smile.
  • In-house singing with children.
  • We are using all of the songs in our Christmas Nativity play this year.
  • Already implemented vocal warm-ups. Hopeful that choir can use the CD and songs for next Christmas.

Some of the songs on Tyndale’s CD will be taught next year.

b. How could this training, and your proposed actions, be successful in raising standards of Learning and Teaching in your school?

  • Children already very enthusiastic about these songs!
  • Raise standards of teaching and learning of singing – give wider range of singing experience and greater staff confidence.
  • Having Urban Voice back into school would raise enthusiasm for music.
  • Help in how to conduct and to teach songs. Higher the value and priority of singing within school.
  • Raise profile and quality of singing throughout school. • It will help raise standards of teaching and learning in music.
  • The children thoroughly enjoy the songs and are most enthusiastic, and I am more confident.
  • Valuable experiences for the children.
  • All our Key Stage 2 children have experienced Urban Voice – it has generated great enthusiasm with many of the children who actually enjoy singing.
  • Music warm-up exercises to be used to aid children’s singing.
  • Use of the gospel style of singing will increase children’s participation, enthusiasm and enjoyment.
  • Vocal warm-ups will be encouraged before singing.
  • Gospel singing will develop enthusiasm and enjoyment for the children. Part singing.

c. Can you identify any further training needs for yourself and your colleagues?

  • Future courses and resources from Tyndale.
